Ask Graham Swift and he’ll tell you we’re all short-story enthusiasts. It’s the novel that’s the oddity.  
  
In a Guardian piece, the author of “England and Other Stories” writes about returning to short fiction after many years writing only novels, and wonders why the two forms are considered so radically distinct.  
  
Maybe it’s time for the short novel?
