Autonomy economy

There’s nothing quite like a global pandemic to get people thinking about autonomy.

When all the institutions people trust begin to fail them (governments, corporations, colleges, politics, markets, media, environment, et al) what choice do people have but to put their trust in themselves.

The great resignation is driven by millions of people seeking more autonomy, more control. People don’t want to return to the office because the office has been the locus of a command-and-control approach to work that forces workers to sacrifice their autonomy.

People want more control in their lives. They don’t want to seek permission from middle management to visit a doctor. They don’t want to commute an hour each way to attend fruitless meetings.

They don’t want to give their life to a corporation that preaches family but treats them like shit.
