Bill Hicks: Agent of evolution
Bill Hicks said a lot of things to make you feel and see and think differently.
I just have this weird theory. The best kind of comedy to me is when you make people laugh at things they’ve never laughed at, when you take a light into the darkened corners of people’s minds, exposing them to the light. I thought the whole point of it was to make you feel un-alone.
We’re all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively. There is no such thing as death, son. It’s only an illusion that we are separate beings. In actuality we are all one kind. God is love and love is all there is, and if that’s all there is, there can be no opposite.
We are the perfect and holy children of God. And if we’re the perfect and holy children of God, how can there be any limits? None at all. That’s the point of my act.
Jung had this idea of a collective unconscious which we all share. I agree. But I think this collective mind is supposed to be conscious, not unconscious! And our job as the agents of evolution is to enlighten - to bring light into the dark corners of that netherworld and thus awaken our mind to truth and complete the circle that was broken with the dream of our fall from grace.
Before going any further, you must understand one thing about my personal philosophy. I do not believe making money in order to consume goods is mankind’s sole purpose on this planet. If you’re wondering what I believe our purpose on this planet is, I’ll give you a hint - it has to do with creating and sharing.
You don’t need priests and pastors. I’m an evolved being who deals solely with the source of light which exists in all of us, in all our minds. No middle man required.
There’s no difference between good music and good comedy, it’s entertainment. And entertainment is the suspension of time and space so that you realize your true nature which is spaceless and timeless.
As for me, I believe that God is Love, and that he created us, and that we are his beloved children. I believe his love is unconditional, and that there’s nothing we could do to ever change that. I believe it is our own misperceptions of who we really are that lead to every self-created hell you’ll find in this world. I also believe forgiveness is the key to healing our perceptions and allowing us to remember God and his everlasting love of us.
It’s supposed to be where your ego dissolves and you realize the true nature of our reality which is that we literally all are one and there’s no such thing as death and our bodies are an illusion and God’s eternal love is unconditional and never have we left it other than the dream from the fall from grace which is just an illusory dream and never has God been unloving to us and we can wake up and remember God’s eternal unconditional love. Wake up!
It’s time for a new philosophy, folks. One based on, yes, the principles of Jesus where you love your brother as yourself, because you know what? He is yourself. Literally. Ha ha ha ha ha ha. We are literally all one, okay. The body is an illusion, life is an illusion.
What’s that old song? ‘Row, row, row your boat, gently down the stream, merrily, merrily, merrily, life is but a dream’? See, we knew it as children. We forgot it since.
I believe that we all have the voice of reason inside us and that voice is the same in everyone. And if I may open up even more, I believe that voice (you may call it conscience) is the voice of the holy spirit that God has instilled in us all to gently lead us out of our own self-created hells - those feelings and thoughts of hopelessness, fear, sin, and guilt which have never and could never exist in reality, but only in your mind.
I’m at peace with myself and the world and my God, I only pray everyone will find that same peace within themselves, as know in my heart they will. The voice of reason told me that, and if you think about it, it really is the only thing that makes sense.
We are undergoing evolution, and will continue to do so until all of us awaken to this truth. Our awakening can be as gentle or harsh as we want to make it. Personally. I prefer the gentle awakening I’ve experienced in my own life, But, as always. you are free to choose your own route to heaven. In the end, it really doesn’t matter. We’ll all make it there in end.
You have people that want to hear comedy where they don’t have to think about anything, To me they are missing the point. They say, ‘I just want to escape from reality’. No you don’t. You want to escape from illusions.
We have to learn to separate illusions from reality. The best comedy is where people wake up to that. They actually leave feeling lighter, they feel hope.
I was raised Southern Baptist. What is one of the first things that you learn? The kingdom of heaven is within you. I am saying that it realty is in you. Seriously. These aren’t just hollow words that we repeat from generation to generation. The voice of reason tells you that it is within you.
The word is ‘enthusiasm’. It’s from ‘enthios’ which means the God within. You know what that means? You do what excites you, what really brings you joy. It’s God’s way of saying you are on the right path. We are on it together and isn’t it fun? Do what brings you joy and all else will follow.
On June 16, 1993 1 was diagnosed with having liver cancer that had spread from the pancreas. One of life’s weirdest and worst jokes imaginable. I’d been making such progress recently in my attitude, my career and realizing my dreams, that it just stood me on my head for a while. Why me!? Why now!?
Well, I know now there may never be any answers to those particular questions. But maybe in telling a little about myself, we can find some other answers to other questions. This might help our way down our particular paths, towards realizing my dream of new hope and new happiness.
I left in love, in laughter, and in truth. And wherever truth, love and laughter abide, I am there in spirit.
Amen.
