Cut a deal with your inner critic

Your inner critic gets in the way of writing your first draft fast because it wants to have everything perfect before you’ve even put pen to paper.

You can try to destroy your inner critic. But you’ll fail.

Better to simply thank your inner critic for caring about the quality of your work, tell him (or her) you’ll get back to them in the edit and focus on getting the first draft done as quickly as possible.

Writing well is not producing a perfect first draft, but editing and rewriting afterward.

It’s amazing the amount of work you can do when you allow yourself to just write.

Not think, not worry.

Just write.
