The drama of politics

Politics is not really about politics.

It’s about the story of politics, the story of opposing forces. Of slaying imaginary monsters that threaten the people. Drug fueled rapists flooding in over the border stealing everyone’s jobs, filthy fake refugees landing in broken boats to push their dirty religion down everyone’s throat, six-toed sloths with a taste for baby blood.

The threats don’t have to be true. They just have to be dramatic and life-threatening.

The leader who promises to be the only one to save the people from those imaginary horrors wins the election.

It’s not about facts or policies or polls. It’s not about the machinations of the party machine.

It’s all about the story, the narrative.

A vote is a ticket to the show.
