Everyone gets one

So it’s definitely a crisis, right?

A global pandemic that’s brought the world to a shuddering halt. Billions of people around the globe under lockdown with no movement, no commerce, no economy.

Simple escapes for groceries and essentials. Short walks to stretch the legs and the mind.

I’m lost in thought when I spot two young boys perched behind a small table on the footpath. There’s no one else around.

‘Would you like to buy something?’ the youngest calls out.

‘I would but I have no money,’ I reply.

The youngest thinks for a moment and then picks up something from the table and holds it out to me.

‘It’s okay,’ he says. ‘Everyone who goes past gets one.’

He drops a small glass pebble in the palm of my hand.
